3.1 The Browser Window
The Browser window is Voltaire's main window. You'll probably do more than 80% of your work here. The Browser is where you will search for the objects of your system, create new objects or edit existing ones, add objects to Sets or remove them from Sets, and many other things.
The Browser window is divided into two main parts: the tool bar, and the content section.
The toolbar contains buttons to some of the most common functions, as well as the search controls.
The content section is divided into 4 panes: the Sources listbox, the Sets listbox, the Items listbox, and the Item detail.
A Source is one of the main objects that the system deals with: Contacts, Artists, and Artworks, for example. (See the section 3.2 Sources for details.)
A Set is a system-defined or User-defined collection of Items. An example of a system-defined (or Smart) Set is all Artworks that were added in the last 7 days. An example of a User-defined Set is a Set named "Hold for Basel Miami" created by a User of the system. (See the section 3.3 Sets for details.)
An Item is any particular instance of one of the Sources. For example, when you are in the Artworks Source, you will see listed in the Item listbox a number of Artworks. (See the section 3.4 Items for details.)
You can navigate between the different parts of the Browser window using the Tab key, or between the listboxes by using the left- and right-arrow keys. You can navigate within any listbox by using the up- and down-arrow keys.
The detail pane gives you a detail view of the currently selected Item, with a view of all the properties of that Item.
